What Should Bring When Swimming with Wild Dolphins?
You’ve booked your Mauritius Dolphin Swim, but now you’re wondering: What should I bring with me on the day of the activity?
The first thing to keep in mind is that you will need sun protection. Sunscreen and a hat are both a good idea, as well as a bottle of water. Your bathing suit (already put on) is a must if you’re planning on getting in the water with the dolphins, as well as a towel to dry off after. If the day is cooler or breezy, a light windbreaker or sweatshirt is a good idea. Since swimming with the wild dolphins is an early morning activity, typically beginning around 7am, it’s important to eat breakfast before you leave your hotel, or bring something with you (assuming breakfast is not provided).
Most tour options provide snorkeling gear, but some don’t, so it’s a good idea to check the tour description. If snorkeling gear is not provided for your tour, then it’s a good idea to bring some, as time for snorkeling is often provided after the dolphin swim.
If you’ve booked a full day tour, such as the Mauritius Volcanic Wonders Tour Including Swimming with Wild Dolphins, it’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes, and comfortable walking shoes (sandals are more convenient for the dolphin encounter). There is typically a place to change at the beach, after your Mauritius Dolphin Swim.
If you get sea sickness, it’s a good idea to take Gravol, or a similar anti-nauseant. However, since the dolphin swim is inside the lagoon, the sea is typically relatively calm, and the vast majority of people will have no problem with sea sickness. However keep in mind that Whale Watching takes place outside of the lagoon, where the sea is rougher.
So, don’t forget to bring:
-
Sun protection (hat and sunscreen)
-
Water
-
Bathing suit
-
Towel
-
Windbreaker or Sweatshirt (if the day is cooler)
-
Breakfast (if it’s not included and you haven’t eaten at your hotel)
-
Snorkeling Gear (if it’s not included)
-
A change of clothes
