Where is the Best Place to Swim with Wild Dolphins in Mauritius?
Both Spinner and Bottlenose dolphins are found in abundance off of the coast of Mauritius, but one area stands out as the best place to encounter these magnificent creatures.
The southern half of the west coast of Mauritius is considered to be the best area to swim with wild dolphins in Mauritius. The stretch of coastline from Flic en Flac in the north to La Gaulette in the south is the best place to encounter these magnificent creatures, However, dolphins can frequently be encountered from the capital of Port Louis, all the way south to the Le Morne peninsula. The expansive lagoon between Petite Riviere Noire and Le More (including Benitiers Island) provides an ideal feeding ground for the dolphins.
It’s not surprising that most wild dolphin swimming excursions start from the southern half of the west coast of the island. Towns such as Flic en Flac, Tamarin, Grande Riviere Noire and La Gaulette are popular departure points.
